In Greek mythology, Orion was a mighty hunter often portrayed as an archer. In this exciting original work, students also get to wield their bows as they perform a bold, dramatic melody with bow lifts! With doubled violin 2/viola and cello/bass, even young ensembles can create a big, impressive sound while practicing playing in 3/4 time, alternating marcato and legato bow strokes.
The Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland, are an awe-inspiring sight. Rising nearly 400 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, they are primarily made up of Namurian Shale and Sandstone, hence the title of this Emerald-inspired composition. The slip jig in the second part gives way to soaring harmonies meant to evoke the steep drop off of the cliffs themselves.
